GENERATIVE DESIGN ART INSTALLATION BASE

Every installation is a custom built work of art.

Every detail from the user experience to the cable management is carefully crafted to maximally convey the artistic concept.

Through many installations the idea of curating interactive art works at comfortable heights has been a valuable insight. As a way to lift the pieces to the appropriate level a custom platform system has been developed. One in which the functionality is achieved through an iterated process with inherent aesthetic beauty.

These art installation platforms are created through a process by the name of generative design.

The process starts with welding a lower and upper section to serve as start and stop limits for the structure. These are then fixed in place using temporary scaffolding.

Many steel rods are then cut to random lengths. These rods are then welded into place one by one until a joint is made between the upper and lower portions.

Next, the scaffolds are removed and the piece becomes slightly wobbly and flexible for it is not finished. Though, as more subsequent steel rods are welded in between the platform starts to strengthen. Each iteration the technician applies force to different areas and if it bends a rod of sufficient length is welded in between to add rigidity.

Through this process the final shape begins to take form as a prismatic, geometric, wireframe type of architecture from the future.

As a final touch multiple coats of semi-gloss white paint are applied rendering the final product strong, lasting, and gorgeous.

This is a fantastic look for it simultaneously conveys a number of Sensebellum core design values:

  • It is created using simple objects through a simple process to produce complex emergent results.

  • The form and process bring together elements of the digital and analog worlds into a cohesive whole.

  • The style is reminiscent of the columns supporting classical busts though in a futuristic sense.

  • The platform is both functional and beautiful.
