Creative tree lighting turns interactive at Seattle Art Museum's "SAM Lights"

The Arborealis Tree Lighting System is flexible enough to be deployed in many parks, gardens, and environments. When the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) asked Sensebellum to design an experience for SAM Lights 2017 that activated the trees, elicited a sense of scale, and was fun for all ages there was indeed a few good solutions to this creative challenge...

Immediately the Arborealis, with it's over 120 digital LED light fixtures, came into focus as a unique approach to this creative challenge.

By creating a topographic map of the park, complete with buttons representing clusters of lights and projection mapping over the top to show the interactions, an installation was introduced that combined the true essence of Sensebellum with the terrain of the park.

Each button represented a cluster of trees. When pressed, both a sound and a lighting pattern were triggered that rippled throughout the landscape. Press a few more, grab a friend, meet a new one, and soon a collaborative multi-sensory jam session was on!

It was very rewarding to see people from all walks and ages participate in this experience, share tips, spark ideas, and work together to discover out how it all worked on the inside.

If you are looking for some interesting lighting for your next gathering than we would love to help make it amazing!
